Context of Mission

Nitoukou is a village located in the Mbam et Inoubou departement (region Centre, Cameroun).

Despite  assets and potential of the region, the local economy is weakly developed ;

Social and Economic infrastructures are lacking.

Many problems persist in the region, including the difficulty of access to drinking water.

The river network is very sparse and consists mainly of small rivers.

Face of rising temperatures, these water points are drying up.

As the temperature is increasing, these water points are drying up.

Water resource is rare and queues are long.

The water, which is freely accessible, is mainly intended for domestic and agricultural use.

However, these waters are polluted and plants proliferate in the watercourses.

The population is not concerned or little sensitized by the preservation of this vital resource (household waste is dumped into the river).

In addition, water points in schools are non-existent.

Moringa, the "purifying tree" of drinking water resource

Moringa is a small shrub of the Moringaceae family.

All parts of the plant have specific properties and are therefore used in different fields:

  • Human nutrition and medicinal plants

The Leaves are rich (Protein, Calcium, A and C Vitamine  ...) for human consumption.

« Super-food» are manufactured from these elements and food supplements contributing to protein-energy intake and essential micronutrients.

  • Animal feeding stuffs

Forrage shrub for livestock, poultry and fish.

  • Beekeeping

As honey plant, Moringa enables to produce honey all year round.

  • Drinking Water

Moringa has seeds enabling to purify water.

  • Industry

(Stationery, dyes, ropes, biofuel, biogas…)

  • Cosmetology

Seeds are used to make oil.
